Bastion Wins 100+ Awards, Sells More than 500,000 Copies

Posted by Greg Kasavin on December 30, 2011

Well it’s been a good year.

First off, this week marked a major milestone for us when Bastion sailed past half a million copies sold.

Recent holiday sales on Steam and Xbox LIVE Arcade put us over the top. We’re happy to have this many people playing and to be in a position to make more games on our own terms. When we set out to make Bastion, a sales number like that seemed astronomical to us, so it feels great to have hit that mark. It goes to show that a lot of folks out there like what we’re doing and want us to keep going, which is great, because we intend to stick together as a team and do just that.

What’s more, we’re honored to see Bastion getting plenty of attention in various Game of the Year awards lists across all kinds of different publications including some big old mainstream ones. We wanted to make a memorable game so it’s great to see this level of recognition.

  • Adri on 30/12/2011

Congrats! We're all looking forward to more games from you guys.

  • Phayz on 30/12/2011

just bought it, grats on the achievement guys

  • Roberth on 30/12/2011

    Good job guys. Well deserved

  • Toddus_Maximus on 30/12/2011

Congratulations on the huge milestone and all the rewards! Glad to hear there will be more to come from the team!

  • I love Bastion on 30/12/2011

You guys and gal really deserve this. Bastion was an amazing game! I'll always be looking forward to everything Supergiant Games does.

  • victor on 30/12/2011

    Bastion 2 PLEASE !

  • Mister Lich on 30/12/2011

It is extremely well deserved for a studio who revitalized the gaming industry with the core values of what makes a game great. SuperGiant games is on their way to the top if Bastion is any indication of their design philosophy, I guarantee it.

  • Magnus on 30/12/2011

Honestly, I think you deserve even more! Hopefully Bastion will have a long and fruitful life. That's not to say 500k isn't an amazing number, however. Congratulations! Hell of a first time showing for your studio. Oh: While I would like a Bastion 2, I do hope you guys try something different. Bastion was such an amazingly contained experience. And though I'm sure you'd do it justice, I'd hate to see its legacy tarnished by an unnecessary sequel.

  • MazzFraps on 30/12/2011

Congrats on making such a great game. It wouldn't bother me if you guys won't make a sequel to this game, but I think that many people would like it if you'd make another game, with a rich story and touching scenes where you can feel the emotions, funny or sad.

  • Pudge on 30/12/2011

Gz guys, really well deserved!!! Found another one for the list - best XBLA game of 2011 - I bet the awards will keep rolling in.

  • Sashh on 30/12/2011

Congratulations, Bastion is my personal GOTY

  • steebgreeb on 31/12/2011

Well done dudes & dudette, keep it up!

  • booboo on 31/12/2011

Congrats guys. You really deserved this. Brilliant, amazing game in every single way... <3 btw guess there's a lil typo there. Tom’s Hardware Turkey – Most Original Game, Best Narrative, Best Original Game Guess the last one should be best original music or something. :)

  • kwyjibo on 31/12/2011

Congratulations, and a happy new year! What kind of split are you seeing between PC and Xbox sales?

  • scottwashi on 31/12/2011

    Baller! Much deserved.

  • Paul on 31/12/2011

Congrats! Will we see sales breakdown? I am sure many would be curious which platform sold most!

  • mundox on 31/12/2011

Gratz, the game is awesome, keep them coming.

  • Tops on 31/12/2011

Definitely would be interesting to know the platform split.

  • Maurice on 31/12/2011

Congrats! Hope the sales continue to be so great! Btw, you can add "Best Soundtrack" on GIGA to your list ;)

  • David Sanchez on 31/12/2011

Hey, Greg! Glad to see Bastion selling so well, and it's really great to see the game raking in some sweet awards. Just wanted to let you know that I listed the game as one of the top 10 indie games of the year on the site I write for, GameZone. You can check out the list here: Also, just wanted to point out that I'm a huge fan, from your days at GameSpot to your recent top 10 on GiantBomb. Not to mention your work at Supergiant Games. Have a great New Year!

  • Dwarf Vader on 1/1/2012

Just wanted to say that you deserved it. This game, Bastion, brought up so many emotions in me. I could relate to so many situations in the game, stories of the characters. The scene where the player saves Zulf made me tear, a little. I haven't experienced sincere emotion from a video game for a long time... Did I also mention that the gameplay is nearly perfect too? So thank you guys and gals, I hope your next project will only be even better, and that you will be rewarded accordingly. Have a happy new year! -Dwarf Vader (Or so they call me...)

  • Eboy on 1/1/2012

    Great news. Please: PS3-version also!

  • Fournexus on 1/1/2012

Congratz on the great achievement, I brought your game for Xbox and the PC. I wonder will you reconsider bring it to the Playstation network now?

  • Surveilance on 1/1/2012

Congratz! I hope the money from that will help to produce another game on the high quality level of Bastion, maybe even a Bastion 2 sometimes. The only thing I would wish from future games would be a wider support of different plattforms. I know thats hard for a small team but maybe you can take it into account. And maybe some money can be used for a Linux port of Bastion, who knows. It would make a second sale from my part ;)

  • kevin on 2/1/2012

You guys missed Capsule Computers, who just announced Bastion as "Best Downloadable Game" here:

  • Mythos on 2/1/2012

Congratulations to all your team - you deserve every bit of it! Here's to a bright future!

  • Andrew on 2/1/2012

Congratulations on the great sales figures and all the well-deserved awards! Bastion was one of the more enjoyable video game experiences I've had this year. Good luck on future projects!

  • Cryptic on 2/1/2012

Seems redundant but Congratulations to all of you. This really is GOTY for me for last year beating several "Triple A" titles. I look forward to your next game!

  • Geoff on 3/1/2012

Congratulations! Well deserved in most categories. Don't lose sight of your goals and thanks for making such an astounding game. Bastion touched my heart.

  • Darryl on 3/1/2012 awarded Bastion a ton of different awards: Best New IP for 2011: Best Indie Game: And for Supergiant, Best Indie Developer:

  • Dave on 3/1/2012

    Indie GOTY.

  • Justin on 3/1/2012

you guys deserve the praise. You did a good job, though I still yet to finish. What I have played is well done and innovative. I glad your getting the recognition and hopefully your next game will top Bastion...

  • Justin on 3/1/2012

wow I sound like an idiot :)

  • Neil on 4/1/2012

I just finished playing through bastion. You guys deserve all of this praise and more. I recently read that you guys are not planning on a Bastion 2, and I want you guys to know that is probably good. I want nothing more than for you guys to put into your next game the same care and desire that you had for this one. Please do not stop doing whatever it is you guys are doing.

  • kris on 4/1/2012

Hey, enjoying the game immensely! Also, Bit-tech awarded Bastion 5th place in their top 5 games of 2011. Keep up the good work! :)

  • Adrian vG on 4/1/2012

Congrats on your 500k sale! Does that mean you can invest on a Mac version? ;)

  • Tim on 4/1/2012

well deserved, and whatever your next project, please keep the same music and sexy-voiced narrator
